Garvey Ct
I created a site-specific video installation for 77 W Wacker centered on Garvey Ct, a north–south facing side plaza that offers shade and protection from the wind. Despite its public appearance, the entrance is often blocked by barricades, which limits foot traffic. The building houses prestigious companies and appears intimidating. It’s missing from Google Street View, which points to the issue of privatized urban space.
In response, I built a large floral structure out of chicken wire, wood, and exposed wiring, suggesting a barrier. An animation of flowers slowly blooming is projected onto the floor of Garvey Ct, inviting people in and contrasting the softness of the florals with the building’s strong corporate presence.
